John again....

I know, I know, I can't stop thinking about John Adams. I listened to the book twice while walking on my treadmill right after we learned we had this opportunity to go to Boston. Then now that the seminar is getting closer I checked out the movie from the library to get another shot of John. Now it's about all I think about. Today I keep thinking how he was so adamant we become an independent nation from Great Britan and how he sacrificed his marriage and family to serve his fellowmen and his country over an ocean and 3000 miles away. When he does return from Europe, his children are grown, he is 53 years old, and John now begins another relm of his legacy.

  1. Can we conceive of any American giving so much to his nation in today's world. I am reading my second way through now and anticipate finishing again on Wednesday, I have actually watched the miniseries after I finish reading each section. It is intriguing seeing how the mini series varies from the book so much in some places and so dead on in others. I am really looking forward to seeing his farm and trying to imagine all that Abigail did with it while he was away.

  4. Nancy, if you decide to watch the mini series, I strongly urge you to choose the sub-title option (I can't remember exactly what it is called) but it gives lots of historic information and makes the movie enjoyable.

  5. The movie is fantastic. It follows the book closely and they did a wonderful job choosing actors for the roles.

  6. I was impressed throughout by the attitude of Abigail and what a strong woman she really was. There are a few times when you can see a little frustration in what she is writing to others, but for the most part she is strong and passionate about liberty as well.
