After reading several blogs tonight, I kept thinking back to ideas from one by Cindi entitled "Founding Fathers" and one by Kate entitled "Diving into Walking." As I reflected on the ambition, courage, honor, and education Cindi mentioned as traits of our founding fathers, I felt a desire to add yet another trait. Realizing that transportation across the Alantic Ocean took months to accomplish, and there were no televisions, radios, or cellular telephones, our founding fathers had to have been able to think "outside the box." There were no plans laid before them of other new lands conquered and democratic governments established. These men were daring, devoted "risk takers." One must have courage to implement plans where all parties involved do not agree, but one must also be daring to create, design, and implement new and untried plans. As Cindi said, we do now and will continue to study our founding fathers because of the incredible contributions they made to this great country, which we would most likely not have had without them. Regarding Kate's "Diving into Walking," my vocal mind rehearsed to Kate my love of being in nature and being awed by its creations. With a tent and a camera, I could be quite content (for a couple of weeks at a time) in nature...as long as there is a pay shower in the vacinity! Thoreau did love nature, but he did also work in "the real world" just like the rest of us. I'm sure he kept nature within him, however, wherever he found himself working in society.
