Anne Bradstreet Poetry
I loved these poems, mostly because I love poetry in general, but when I did some research on Anne's life, I gained a greater appreciation and understanding of her as an author. I realize it was almost unheard of for women to get published during that time period, and if it weren't for her brother-in-law John, her poems never would have been published. Maybe she didn't want anyone to read her work, but this type of writing is timeless and important. With all the hardships Anne and her family endured, what else could she have done but write poetry. It obviously gave her life more meaning.

I also enjoyed her poetry. Some of the other poetry was harder for me to understand, but I could relate to hers at face value. Sometimes we try to over analyze things, and that takes away some of the pleasure of it.
ReplyDeleteI agree that some of the other poetry was harder to understand. I liked Anne Bradstreet. To me it was straight forward and I didn't have to try and sit for hours to figure out what she was talking about. Maybe, though, I am just missing the hidden meanings!
ReplyDeleteI was also impressed that she wrote this poetry (which I also enjoyed) in a man's world along with rearing 8 children and doing all that women had to do in her day.
