Ben Franklin

  • I read the article about Ben Franklin today. John Adams was not talked about at all in the article. It told of all the wonderful things that Franklin did, but when it talked about the Declaration of Independence and writing the Constitution, it didn't even mention John! It talked about those helping him as Washington and Franklin. I remember a quote in the book of Adams that said something like, No one will ever remember me. It will be all Franklin and Washington. Franklin will amaze everyone with his lightning rod and Franklin will smote the
  • ground at up will come Washington and his horse. Then He, Washington and the horse will win the Revolutionary war all by themselves. Why don't we ever hear about the great things this man Adams did during his life for our country?

  1. I have really been wondering the same thing. In all the history classes I took in college, he was only briefly covered and often referred to as inept. The John Adams book has totally changed my opinion of the man. He was a very inspiring person.

  2. I remember this comment by John Adams as well. He seems to be right on with some of his predictions. He was on cue when he predicted that Jefferson would have a hard time with retirement as well. I get the feeling that not much slipped by him.

  3. One of my students chose Adams for a research report. Her comment as she began "He was kind of boring and everybody liked his wife better". While reading the book she and I discussed different chapters and I shared more of what I was learning. She was very happy to learn that Adams indeed made many contributions to the country. Actually I was thrilled to learn about him myself! Student and teacher learning together was a lovely outcome of this project already.
