Benjamin Franklin

I think John Adams would have been truly unhappy with this article.

"Early bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy wealthy and wise."

He was so upset with Franklin in France. Adams would get up and do his normal routine. He would finally see Franklin come waltzing about mid day. I just have to laugh.

"The Continental Congress sent Franklin and others to France to secure an alliance."

And others. And others. This would have sent Adams into a frustration fit. And others.

It sure is nice to have historians and authors that will look into the lives of these men and help us see the true patriots. I am not saying Franklin wasn't a patriot. I just think this short article paints a picture of Franklin that is very glorious.

When I did my learning log about this article, my question for the right column was this.

"Which Franklin is the real?" Some historians really blast Franklin. Some historians paint a nice picture of Franklin? Will the real Benjamin Franklin please stand up?

  1. I agree that it is difficult to know what the "true" Ben Franklin was like. Before reading John Adams, I had always had a negative impression of him. My impression of Franklin was the opposite. Now I am questioning all my previous knowledge. I need to read more on Franklin now to see how my opinions further change.

  2. Kaye, I agree. I would like to read more in depth about Franklin now as well for the same reason.
